| Pascal Mpeck was born on 1972 in the south of France (Cannes) of African father (Cameroon), and West Indian mother (Martinique). At the tender age of 8 he was already impassionned by drawing. He later did formal training in graphic arts in France. Pascal does his painting in France but exhibits all over the world with the pleasure and enjoyement of his viewers and inform about African culture, history and identity. it is his hope that Africa will be better know and understood as her cultural legacy is passed on to future generations. Through his magnificent oil paintings Mpeck captures the Africa of the period between the 16th and 18th Centuries and preserves it for posterity. His work is the fruit of long formal study of the culture of ancient Africa and imbued with love and passion his paintings are much more than mere works of art. A vision into the past, a work that will inspire writers to embrace the dream, and bring into our time the rich culture of Africa remembered. | | While my art is created to be aesthetically pleasing it is also rooted in ethnology and antropology. To faithfully portray the details which define a historical time, place, or event is really importance. It is through such details as clothing, hairstyles, weapons, and jewellery that it may be differentiated between certain ethnic groups and tribes. While the settings, subjects, and spatial arrangements of my paintings are purely imaginative it is important to respect the function and position of each subject within their society. For example, this is often portrayed by the position or the clothes of characters. You might ask me where is the imagination ? It is through the general atmosphere that we becomes emotionally engaged. Such elements as the sky, the landscape, the subject's posture or even facial expression come together to create a certain atmosphere, and it is the imagination's job to harmonize them. | | HeritageMpeck is a registered trademark of MpeckPaintings®
